I am the Managing Director of Electroville, which is a social firm, providing a range of ICT and management services to voluntary organisations. As part of this he is the Regional ICT Champion for the Voluntary Sector in Yorkshire & Humber.
Electroville grew out of the Disabled People's Electronic Village Hall (DPEVH) in Dewsbury. DPEVH has been delivering IT education to people with disabilities for over 12 years. Electroville became independent from DPEVH on the 1st June 2007.
My career has spanned the public, private and voluntary sectors. After a couple of years working for (what became) BT in London, I went into Further Education as a General Studies teacher and then progressed to Head of the IT Support Unit at Huddersfield Technical College before leaving to start up my own business, specialising in ICT consultancy. In 2003, I arrived at DPEVH as Chief Executive to run the learning organisation and set up the social firm.
I also serve as a Trustee of the Yorkshire & Humber Regional Forum, a director of Social Enterprise Yorkshire & Humber, Paddock Community Forum and Social Firms UK.
What tools do you think would transform education (50 words max):
My first (rather jaundiced thought) was a machine gun! However my more prosaic thoughts include:
What will it mean when every household in Britain is connected to Digital Television. That is a 2 way communication device. How could it be used?
The next piece of technology that makes me wonder is www.fon.com.
Is it time for e-learning to come into its own?
