It's a little bit out of date now, but I found this thought provoking article from Time Magazine, which I think is just as pertinent to the UK education system as it is to that in the US.

Letter Published in "Times Educational Supplement - FE Focus" 29th March 2007
I was very surprised by your editorial in FE Focus (“Folly of EU Phone Subsidy” - 23/3/07). I normally have the highest respect for your publication, but, in this instance I think you have lost the plot. To suggest that resources should only be targeted at those who want to learn is to ignore so many of the issues which beset the education system today. The UK cannot afford the was

Didn't know that one. I know of JISC, of course, as I was last teaching at University of Edinburgh and many persons there have some involvement with the JISC. Arggh, as most academic resources, the repository is password protected :-(.
Feel free to check out my own list of websites with learning objects or LOs repositories and open content (texts and courseware).
I know this wiki is a bit hard to navigate. I am working on a mashup to provides easier access to all these resources I know about. Rather than set up my own repository, I will link to to all these resources spread over the web in a single place (yup, mashup).
I would be keen to discuss my projects further with anybody interested... I am in an ideal position, ex-academic, full time developer. I can be a bridge between the two worlds :-).
I assume you came across this exercist project of mine (also on eduforge). There is some information that is not made available publicly, like this lessons editor
This got stalled for months. The software I was counting on proved unreliable (despite very many great promises from the company, last year, that this was due to change). I have now decided to use a combination of Flex/AIR, javascript, and rails for future developments (with the problem that uh, euh, I am really not a pro flash developer for now). I expect to have to wait 6 months for any deliverable on the exercist project. Then probably a year to get proficient enough in Flex, rails, to get the taskflow one on track. eXercist is about small-sized learning activities and learning resources (or their manipulation). Taskflow is about using visual programming (moving boxes and connections on the screen) to define a flow of information transformation.
